How to Prevent Chap Lips in Cold Weather

I’m back, Get Excited!  Welcome to my beauty informational blog on “How to Prevent Chap Lips in Cold Weather”.  Did you know that cold weather and wind is one of the most common causes of chapped lips? To prevent chap lips protect your lips with lip balm when you go out in cold weather, and make sure to use a lip balm with adequate SPF protection when you go out in the sun.  Also, did you know that ultraviolet rays can be present even on overcast days and can damage the delicate skin on lips?  Keep your selected moisturizer handy throughout the day to avoid allowing your lips to dry out.

When wearing lipstick, apply a protective lip balm underneath your lipstick. Reduce smoking as much as possible. Smoking dries out the skin, making your lips more likely to get chapped.  Drink plenty of water. Dehydration can be a cause of dry and damaged lips. Adequately hydrating your body prevents the desire to lick lips, helps to soothe existing lip skin conditions and serves as a preventative measure against future lip problems
Lip gels, balms or lipsticks that contain alcohol will usually make your chapped lips feel even dryer and more painful.  Apply moisturizer before bedtime. As helpful as daytime moisturizers are, lips can become dried out overnight if you sleep with your mouth open. Applying agents such as Shea butter, sunflower seed oil or castor seed oil can nourish your lips overnight and help you avoid waking up to cracked lips.  Lastly, use a humidifier in your home, especially at night. This is an effective way to keep your lips moisturized.

Punch Up Your Beauty This Holiday

Get Excited! Get Excited!! The holiday season is here..What can a woman do to punch up her look without taking it all off and starting over for an afterwork holiday event?Transitioning from work to evening is actually pretty easy if you prep yourself. Apply tinted moisturizer (or foundation), mascara and gloss or lipstick before work. After work, cover any blemishes by patting in a concealer (never rub).

Then follow these steps for either the smokey eye look or the deep red look:

For the Smokey Eye
1. Apply your eye makeup: Eyeliner on both top and bottom lashes (be sure to 'smudge it,' dark eyeliner will age you), a eye shadow primer, and a shimmery shadow on the lid. Don't apply any more mascara unless your earlier application has rubbed completely off, otherwise you risk getting clumpy lashes.
2. Dab a shimmery blush to cheeks.
3. Powder your face lightly.
4. Apply a light lipstick or gloss.

For Deep Red Lips
1. Cover unsightly veins on eyelids with a matte eyeshadow in a color that's as close as your skin tone as possible.
2. Apply a very light shimmery blush on cheeks.
3. Line lips and fill in with your favorite red color.
4. Powder face.

Which look will you wear to your holiday event?
Smokey Eyes
Deep Red Lips

UV Nail Gel vs Acrylic Nails

Hey Everybody I’m back!  Get Excited! Get Excited!  Welcome to my informational beauty blog.  A few weeks I tried the UV nail gel.  I was surprise about the drying time of my nails. Wow!  If you are not able to get a professional look at home, or have nails that break easily, consider gel nails.

Did you know that UV nail gel gives your nails strength and durability as if you had acrylic tips?  Acrylic nails do not have these same qualities. One of the main benefits of gel nails are that they look and feel natural. The reason that UV gel nails look natural is that they are flexible and thin like real nails.  For those who do not want the world to know about their nail enhancements or need a professional look, this is a pro for gel nails.

The UV gel is placed directly over natural nails the same way nail polish is applied. According to NailSplash.com, many people decide to apply UV nail gel to their nails instead of getting acrylics. Putting UV nail gel on top of your nails can help protect them from day-to-day wear like excessive hand-washing and typing.

To remove UV Gel from nails you will need a nail file, orange stick, a bowl with warm water, acetone or gel remover.

Pro Tip:  After removing the UV gel from nails treat the natural nails with conditioning nail oil.

Perfect Skin Smoothie Recipes

Get Excited! Get Excited! I'm back with another informational blog on how sipping your way to a clear, glowing complexion with these easy smoothie recipes.  Ashley Koff, R.D., a celebrity dietitian and author of "Mom Energy," says every woman can benefit from firing up the ol' blender. "Smoothies are a great way to get all of the nutrients you need for beautiful skin in just one drink," says Koff.   Let's create some healthy skin smoothies...

The Clear Skin Smoothie

This smoothie, created by Koff, uses a protein powder made from hemp seeds, which is a balanced source of skin-boosting omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The dandelion greens are great for the liver, helping to detox the body and skin; the avocado and raw cacao powder contain a powerful mix of antioxidants, which help clear the complexion and get skin glowing; and the coconut water is loaded with potassium, which helps skin cells get the water they need to stay (and look) hydrated.

Blend …
1 scoop of hemp protein (Koff likes Manitoba Harvest Hemp Pro 70)
1/2 cup organic blueberries
1/2 bunch dandelion greens (no stems)
11 oz coconut water
1/4 avocado
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder

NONI COLADA

Coconut water kefir is another great non-dairy smoothie ingredient, and it's loaded with probiotics -- the "good" bacteria that help keep our digestion running smoothly (and our skin clear as a result). The pineapple in this recipe, created by raw vegan chef Jason Andrew Wrobel, also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent, helping to calm puffy, irritated skin.

Blend …
10 oz coconut water kefir
Handful ice cubes
4 oz frozen pineapple chunks
1 tsp dried noni fruit powder
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
Pinch of sea salt
Sweetener to taste (half dropper-full of vanilla stevia is great)

GREEN TEA COOLER

Created by Mary Kennedy, M.S., a nutrition and wellness professional who works for Stonyfield Farm, this smoothie combines two powerful skin foods: organic yogurt and green tea. The yogurt is loaded with live active cultures that provide the gut with beneficial bacteria, which helps digestion (the better your digestive tract runs, the better your skin will look); mint and honey also help fend off "bad" bacteria, and the green tea is loaded with anti-aging antioxidants.

Blend …
1 cup Stonyfield organic fat-free key lime yogurt

1 cup prepared green tea, cooled

1/2 cup loosely packed mint, chopped

Juice and zest of 2 limes

1 tsp honey

2 cups ice cubes

MANGO YOGURT SMOOTHIE

Koff Boyer created this smoothie and says the frozen mango gives it its sweetness and smooth texture and adds skin-boosting vitamins B6, C, and E. Plus, the omega-3s in the fish oil help to regulate oil production, says Koff, which boosts hydration, helps prevent acne, and staves off wrinkles.

Blend …
1 tbsp fish oil
1⁄2 cup plain, low-fat, organic yogurt
1⁄2 cup frozen mango chunks
1⁄2 cup orange juice
1⁄2 cup ice cubes
1 fresh mint leaf (optional)

Transitioning Your Beauty From Summer to Fall

Great Day! Thanks for stopping by. One day the sun is shining, your hair is glossy and your complexion is dewy. The next time you check the leaves are changing and so is your reflection. You wonder: Where did this dry, dull skin come from? Why does my hair look so crunchy? Relax – transitioning your beauty regimen from summer to fall is easy, the only thing you’ll miss about the warm weather will be those bejeweled sandals.

Your skin looks dull and sallow, even with makeup. TREATMENT it’s not your imagination. In the fall, there’s less light which can make even healthy, supple skin appear pastry. To restore your natural glow, switch your summer foundation to a thicker, creamier one with light-reflecting pigments. “You need a cover that will the skin remain hydrated and appear more luminous. Smooth a highlighter across the cheekbones, along the temples and over the eyelids.

Makeup Tips for Mature Women

Great Day! Get Excited! Get Excited!!  I'm back with another informational beauty blog.  Let's talk beauty...The best makeup for mature women is liquid and cream foundation, which looks more natural on the skin, and beautiful matte colors that don't settle into fine lines. Here's a few more tips:

  • Lining your lips can create a more defined shape and prevents bleeding of the lip color. Also, filling in with the pencil increases color depth and helps it last longer.

  • As the shape around the eye softens, more defining may be necessary. Try keeping the intensity on the upper lashline (with smudged shadows or liners) and a bit less so for the under-eye area.

  • There's no need to over tweeze, but pay more attention to the removal of extra-long and/or unruly brow hairs.

  • Try using concealer that is spot-applied with a brush, instead of an all-over foundation, for a lighter, fresher look.

  • Make sure that all products (shadows, blushes, etc.) are blended well and graduated (with the exception of lip liner) to keep the face from looking harsh or stiff.

How to Keep Eye Makeup Fresh During the Summer

Great Day! Get Excited! Get Excited!  Let's talk beauty...As the warm weather begin to roll in here’s a few more tips to keep your summer look fresh. Switch to products that can handle the heat. Look for long-wearing or waterproof mascara, choose eye pencils over liquid liners, and switch to shadows that harden to a cream once applied.

Go light. Line the upper lash line, or settle for a sweep of a light shadow. Shadow from lash line to brow is more likely to cake or crease in the heat, and darker colors will be more apparent if they bleed

Skip eyeliner and mascara on the lower lashes. It's likely to streak in the sweaty under-eye area.

Set eye makeup with a light dusting of loose powder. This will help absorb any moisture that may cause eye makeup to melt.

Use a non-powdered blotting paper to remove any under-eye perspiration when you do notice streaking. Wipe away any eye makeup with a clean cotton swab.

Summer Beauty Pick
Flori Roberts Oil Blotting Translucent Powder - Oil inhibiting formula that minimizes shine and creates a natural, matte finish. Convenient for touch ups…

Great Day! Get Excited! Get Excited!! Let’s talk beauty…Not sure what's your foundation shade? You’re not alone. Did you know that 91% of women would love it if someone would help them find the perfect foundation match? 68% of women have a problem finding the perfect shade of foundation. 58% of women are NOT confident that they are wearing the perfect foundation.

To find your foundation fit ask yourself three questions:

1. What is the most important thing I want my foundation to do?

How to Achieve Radiant Skin

Hey Everybody!  Get Excited! Get Excited!! Today I'm going to share with how to achieve radiant skin. Lately, skin has featured a satin finish, looking pure and natural. Everyone is seeking a luminous-looking face. Impeccable foundation is a must, but without heaviness. To achieve radiant skin, it's important to prepare the skin appropriately. The face should be clean and well-hydrated.

When applying foundation, go for natural, fresh-looking skin, pearlescent textures that subtly illuminate, and translucent tones that allow the skin to shine through.

Don't go to extremes on the skin, either with excessive powder or bright shiny finishes. To achieve a perfectly polished look, apply liquid or cream foundation with a synthetic-bristle brush.

Choose blushes in tones that are in harmony with the makeup used on other areas of the face. If skin is dry, opt for cream or mouse textures.

The Best Way to Conceal Blemishes

Great Day! Get Excited! Get Excited!! Thanks for stopping by. Today's topic is how to Conceal Blemishes... Avoiding blemishes is important if you're concerned about your skin’s appearance. Blemishes can be quite unsightly, and many women want to cover them up effectively using concealer. Unfortunately, blemishes are sometimes unavoidable. That's when it's helpful to know the best way to apply makeup to conceal your blemishes.

Concealer is a creamier foundation makeup with added pigments intended for specific parts of your face. Pick a concealer color that matches the shade of your liquid foundation or is a shade lighter. Never pick a concealer shade that is darker than your liquid foundation.

Here’s a quick way to apply concealer to hide blemishes:

Moisturize your face.
Apply your foundation make-up.
Apply concealer directly to each blemish with your finger or a small brush for the best coverage.
Pat the concealer in circles, blending the edges with the skin and foundation around the blemish.
Apply a powder top-coat to help the concealer blend in and last longer.

How to Get Ready in 10 Minutes

Get Excited! Get Excited! Makeup and Beauty Readers... Are you going somewhere special and have a little time to get ready? If so, I'm going to tell you how to transform your makeup in 5-10 minutes. As I can imagine, You've been wearing makeup since 8:00 this morning, so you don't have time to take it all off and start over. That's okay though; with a few touch-ups, you can transform your day makeup into a spectacular nighttime look.

Mary Kay

Let's get started first with Foundation
Use a clean sponge to remove the foundation you're wearing, paying particular attention to the area under your eyes where more product normally accumulates. Next, use a damp sponge to apply a light layer of fresh foundation and blend. Now you have new foundation and a completely made-up face.

Conceal
Use concealer, but this time use very little product or dampen the brush before application so you don't apply too much. Conceal undereye circles, paying special attention to the inner corners of the eyes and underneath your lower eyelashes. Traces of mascara typically settle in these areas.

Powder
Use mineral powder to add light and life to your face; you'll need it after having spent the whole day made up. My favorite: Flori Roberts Creme to Powder Foundation Rather than leaving skin matte, it adds brilliance and freshness to your face. This is one of the products I can't live without.

Eyes
Here is where you start to notice the transformation a little more. It's very fast and easy, and the result is spectacular.

Wipe off the eyeshadow you were wearing before with a clean sponge and apply a matte, cream-colored shadow over your entire lid. Next, use a damp angled brush to apply black eyeshadow at the roots of your upper and lower eyelashes. The color will look super-intense.

If your eyes aren't sensitive, carefully use the brush to make up the inner rims of your eyes as well, like you would if you were using a pencil. Don't make up the area around your tear ducts; it's best to leave that part clean. Curl your eyelashes and apply two coats of mascara, and your eyes will be stunning.

Cheeks
I always use two kinds of blush: a brownish tone to sculpt and lift my cheekbones and a bronze tone to add color. Don't abuse the blush or it will weigh down your look.

Lips
Moisturize your lips and apply a touch of gloss. Leave lipstick for another day, because if you're tired, it will accentuate signs of fatigue. It's better to go natural.

Highlighting
Use an illuminating powder or cream on your T-zone, forehead, chin, and cheekbones. You'll brighten your face and hide signs of tiredness. When doing your makeup, especially in a situation such as this, focus on brightening your skin. Don't skip this step!

How to Conceal a Tattoo with Makeup

Great Day! Get Excited! Get Excited!   Did you know that everyday foundations and concealers will work to hide under eye circles and small blemishes, but they won’t provide the full and lasting coverage for tatoos. There are numerous heavy-duty concealers on the market, such as Dermablend or Ben Nye Concealer Palette; these are the same products that TV and film makeup artists use to cover an actor’s tattoos and other permanent marks (such as scars or veins).

Look for a product that is completely opaque, heavy, and creamy, not one of the “liquid-to-powder” foundations. Any product with the phrases “sheer” or “light” in the description will not do the trick for this cover-up job! Most tattoos use a blue-based ink, so a yellow concealer will help to counteract the blue tones. Also, make sure that the concealer matches your skin tone exactly.

When you are satisfied with the coverage, dust the area with translucent powder to set the makeup in place (some products come with a powder designed to work with that specific formula). Then, test your makeup job by gently wiping a cotton swab or piece of tissue across the surface.  Finally, check the coverage in several types of light: if you’ll be in bright light, you’ll need even heavier coverage than in dim lighting. And if all else fails, consult a professional makeup artist for his or her expertise!

Application
For lasting results, first begin with a clean and dry foundation. Cleanse your skin as usual, and then use a toner to wipe away any traces of dirt, oil, and makeup. Rinse the area and pat dry. Next, follow the recommendations on the package of your product. Some products will require several layers, but others promise one-step application.

Use a clean, dry makeup sponge for a smooth application. First, apply the product to the area, then use the sponge to spread the concealer evenly. If you are applying several coats, allow each to dry completely. If possible, you might want to cover all exposed skin in the area for an even look.

Give Yourself a French Manicure

Great Day! I gave myself a French Manicure...Get Excited!!  Did you know that beautiful nails don't have to cost you a fortune?  All you really need is an artificial nail kit and some time.

Nail kits usually include artificial nails, nail glue, an emery board and a cuticle stick. You can find these kits at any drugstore, beauty supply store or online.

Before applying the artificial nails, match them to your natural nails so that they fit perfectly.

Place enough glue on the surface of your natural nail to cover the entire surface. Place the press-on nail firmly over your natural nail, and hold it in place for about a minute while the glue sets. If any excess glue comes out on the edges of the nail, promptly remove it with the cuticle stick for a clean finish.

Here's my French Manicure…

WEDDING DAY LASTING LIP COLOR

Great Day! Wedding season is around the corner. Get Excited!!!  Lipstick is a must for any bride, regardless of how much other makeup she wears. It is a good idea to wear long-lasting lipstick so that the bride won't have to worry about when to re-touch or re-apply. Many different brands offer lasting lip color in a variety of shades  With that being said here are a few ideas to get your lip color to last on your wedding day:

1. Conceal the entire lip area, everthing from the natural lip line to the actual lip. This will create a more perfect edge for photos by hiding any discoloration you might have just outside your lip line, as well as creating the perfect canvas on which to apply your lip color.

2. Line the outer edges of the lips with lip liner, then fill in the entire lip area with liner. This is the first line of defense in getting your lip color to last. Lip liner has a drier texture than lipstick, so it lasts longer.

3. Next, apply a soft pretty lipstick that looks natural yet still defines the lips. Then, take a tissue and gently blot your lips. This will remove the moisture from this layer yet leave you with a deposit of pigment. Next, reapply your lipstick; this time, do not blot. Layering color like this will give you double the pigment deposit, thus increasing how long the color will last.

4. Finish with a dot of lip gloss in the center of the lips to attract light and hightlight your smile for photographs.

How to Apply Cream Blush

Great Day! Get Excited!!  Did you know that cream blush is definitely making a comeback? It’s especially great for mature women and women with drier skin. It adds another layer of protection from the elements as well as another moisturizing compound to the face. Women with oily skin may want to stay away from creams, as they could possibly cause more problems for you if put on too heavy.  Read on to learn how to apply cream blush…

Choose a cream blush color that will look natural. Do this by matching it to your lip color. Usually the more expensive the product, the longer it will last. Also, visit a department store makeup counter for a complimentary makeup session if you're having trouble picking the best color for your skin tone.

Put a small amount of cream blush on your fingers then blend your fingers together. The heat from your hand will melt the blush a bit, making it easier to apply.

Apply cream blush to the "apples" of your cheeks blending upward and outward. The apple of your cheek is the top part of your cheek bone on either side.

Now it is time to blend! Starting back at the apple of your cheek, you will gently blend in the cream, covering the apple and the cheekbone. The color should be more vivid on the apple and lighten as it goes towards the temple. This gives you a natural look instead of the streak.
