Keep Essentials At Hand

Cotton Swabs. The secret to truly top-notch makeup application is to blend, blend, blend. Blur edges of color with a cotton swab and you'll achieve that professional look each time.

Big Powder Brush. Get Makeup Artists results with an oversize brush, which is great for dusting on powder as a finishing touch to your look.

Slant-Tip Tweezers. Good tweezers are a must for maintaining a polished arch to your brows. Slanted tips make it easier to grab hairs at the root — just tweeze in the direction the hair is growing.

Keep It Fresh. Beauty products have a shelf life and chances are some of those items in your beauty drawer have long expired. Labeling guidelines give a quick and easy way to determine shelf life once a product has been opened. Look for the open bottle symbol. The number inside is the number of months an item can stay fresh once its been opened.

Evaluate your cosmetic bag in January, April, July and October, replace your mascara and wash your brushes with shampoo, following with conditioner (yes really- conditioner).

•Lip liner Up to 3 years.

•Lipstick If it smells like a candle, throw it out, it's spoiled. If you store lipstick in the refrigerator, it will last longer.
