HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR SKIN TYPE

Get EXCITED!  Get SUPER Excited!  Let’s talk about skin type…did you know there are three skin types?

Your skin type depends on how much water is in your skin, which affects its comfort and elasticity.  Also, how oily it is, which affects its softness.  The three skin types are dry, oily and combination.

Normal Skin Type
Not too dry and not too oily, normal skin has:
No or few imperfections
No severe sensitivity
Barely visible pores
A radiant complexion

Combination Skin Type
Your skin can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others, such as the T-zone (nose, forehead, and chin). Many people have this type. It may need slightly different care in different areas.
Pores that look larger than normal, because they’re more open
Blackheads
Shiny skin

Dry Skin
You may have:
Almost invisible pores
Dull, rough complexion
Red patches
Your skin is less elastic
More visible lines
Your skin can crack, peel, or become itchy, irritated, or inflamed. If it’s very dry, it can become rough and scaly, especially on the backs of your hands, arms, and legs.

Oily Skin Type
You may have:
Enlarged pores
Dull or shiny, thick complexion
Blackheads, pimples, or other blemishes
Oiliness can change depending upon the time of year or the weather.

No matter what type of skin you have, these tips will keep it looking its best.
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays.
Avoid direct sunlight and wear a hat and sunglasses.
Don't smoke.
Stay hydrated.
Wash your skin gently but thoroughly every day and never wear makeup to bed.
Moisturize.

Now that you know your skin type, you can choose the best products that will deliver a healthier, more radiant complexion.

CREATE HEALTHY SKIN SMOOTHIES

Get SUPER Excited! Let's talk about healthy skin...Did you know that antioxidants keep wrinkles and sagging to a minimum.
Smoothies are a great way to get all of the nutrients you need for beautiful skin in just one drink.    Let's create some healthy skin smoothies...

The Clear Skin Smoothie

This smoothie, created by Koff, uses a protein powder made from hemp seeds, which is a balanced source of skin-boosting omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The dandelion greens are great for the liver, helping to detox the body and skin; the avocado and raw cacao powder contain a powerful mix of antioxidants, which help clear the complexion and get skin glowing; and the coconut water is loaded with potassium, which helps skin cells get the water they need to stay (and look) hydrated.

Blend …
1 scoop of hemp protein (Koff likes Manitoba Harvest Hemp Pro 70)
1/2 cup organic blueberries
1/2 bunch dandelion greens (no stems)
11 oz coconut water
1/4 avocado
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder

NONI COLADA

Coconut water kefir is another great non-dairy smoothie ingredient, and it's loaded with probiotics -- the "good" bacteria that help keep our digestion running smoothly (and our skin clear as a result). The pineapple in this recipe, created by raw vegan chef Jason Andrew Wrobel, also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent, helping to calm puffy, irritated skin.

Blend …
10 oz coconut water kefir
Handful ice cubes
4 oz frozen pineapple chunks
1 tsp dried noni fruit powder
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
Pinch of sea salt
Sweetener to taste (half dropper-full of vanilla stevia is great)

GREEN TEA COOLER

Created by Mary Kennedy, M.S., a nutrition and wellness professional who works for Stonyfield Farm, this smoothie combines two powerful skin foods: organic yogurt and green tea. The yogurt is loaded with live active cultures that provide the gut with beneficial bacteria, which helps digestion (the better your digestive tract runs, the better your skin will look); mint and honey also help fend off "bad" bacteria, and the green tea is loaded with anti-aging antioxidants.

Blend …
1 cup Stonyfield organic fat-free key lime yogurt

1 cup prepared green tea, cooled

1/2 cup loosely packed mint, chopped

Juice and zest of 2 limes

1 tsp honey

2 cups ice cubes

MANGO YOGURT SMOOTHIE

Koff Boyer created this smoothie and says the frozen mango gives it its sweetness and smooth texture and adds skin-boosting vitamins B6, C, and E. Plus, the omega-3s in the fish oil help to regulate oil production, says Koff, which boosts hydration, helps prevent acne, and staves off wrinkles.

Blend …
1 tbsp fish oil
1⁄2 cup plain, low-fat, organic yogurt
1⁄2 cup frozen mango chunks
1⁄2 cup orange juice
1⁄2 cup ice cubes
1 fresh mint leaf (optional)

Pro Tip:  Antioxidants keep wrinkles and sagging to a minimum.

Find the Perfect Makeup Artist for Your Wedding Day

Tis' the season to get married, and many brides are gearing up for their perfect day. You have the dress, the caterer, the flowers and the perfect man, but do you have your BBF (bride's best friend)? Yes, finding the makeup artist is always a difficult task because you want to look absolutely perfect on your special day. Rightly so! Finding the right makeup artist is trial and error, and it may take some time to find someone who gets your vision. But the effort is so worth it. Don't risk it by waiting until the last minute either. I'm sure you have a friend who can "do makeup," but bridal makeup is very different from everyday makeup and should be done to your liking. You should just be able to sit back, relax and enjoy your moment.

Here are some tips on finding your BBF:

1. Go through some magazines and collect at least three looks you may want to try for your wedding. Make sure it's a classic look that you will admire when you look back in 30 years -- nothing trendy and nothing over the top. You want to look like you but better.

2. Take a picture of your dress and your bridesmaids' dresses so you have a canvas to work from. Your dress may have a colored sash or beading that's important for the makeup artist to see.

3. At the trial, be vocal and tell the makeup artist what you like and don't like. She is there to make you feel like the stunning bride you will be. Make sure she tells you what products she's using. Should you decide to book her, make sure it's at least two hours before your big "I do" moment. You don't want to feel rushed and must allow time for other important things like getting into your dress!

This is your big day and you want to look your best. Take your time and find someone who wants the same for you! Feel free to visit my online makeup portfolio to check out my bridal work!
Congratulations!

Steps to Becoming a Makeup Artist

Great Day! Thanks for stopping by. Have you ever considered becoming a makeup artist, if so keep reading? If you want to become a makeup artist, you are in for a fulfilling and lucrative career. Learn the craft. You need to educate yourself on the craft of makeup artistry, whether it is through an eBook, beauty school, local seminar or YouTube, you need to learn the basics of makeup artistry before you work on a client.

Build a makeup artist portfolio that will be used to display your talents to potential clients and employers. A portfolio is imperative to the success of a makeup artist because it showcases the artist’s ability to potential clients and employers. Generally, the minimum photos you should have within your portfolio are 10 looks. You can acquire looks for your portfolio by contacting a local model agency and offering to do free makeup applications for one of their photo shoots. You won’t get a tangible payment, but you will get professional quality pictures and likely get to attach your name to a big name company.

Retail is one the best ways to start learning how the cosmetic industry works. Get yourself working as a counter manager or artist for a department store makeup line. Check out the below video on How to Become a Makeup Artist.

HOW TO BECOME A MAKEUP ARTIST

Before considering a career as a makeup artist, you must do field research. Is there room in your geographical area for another makeup artist? What is the competition like? Are you willing to travel for, say, a wedding? How far? Is your car dependable? If you don't want to travel, is your city big enough for you to get the client base you need?

Also get the scoop on pay in your area. It will vary, even in one town, depending on your clientele. Working for a wedding planner, you will make more than working for a mall photography shop. Find out what the highest and lowest income opportunities are.

I started out as a MK Beauty Consultant that's where 90% of training came from. You can begin to build a makeover portfolio, read books by well known makeup artist like Sam Fine he's one of my favorites. Also, attend beauty shows and check out other Makeup Artist's website.

Here are just a few of the opportunities for Makeup Artists.
Weddings
Magazines
Movies
Runway Shows
Television
Until next time...
Have a wonderful day!

MODEL'S MAKEUP FOR STILL PHOTOGRAPHY

Great Day! Readers...I know you have been waiting for this "Model Makeup for Still Photography". As I said before knowledge is power, so let's started. Oh, by the way let me know if the information on my blog is helpful to you.

A model must know to apply makeup for five basic types of modeling situations:
1. Face-to-face meetings
2. Still photography
3. Electronic media
4. Fashion show or stage
5. Promotional modeling assignments

Here's the second makeup topic is Model Makeup for Still Photography.

We often see ourselves through our emotions and in movement. The camera is not emotional and captures only one instant in time with no regard to what motion preceded or followed that moment. Photography is a mechanical process and therefore it catches all the flaws. Makeup for photography must be very carefully applied. The slightest imperfection or poorly applied color is defined or exaggerated in a photograph. In addition, there camera lens tends to coarsen everything it sees, such as the skin and features. It also adds weight.

A model or makeup artist must be able to understand how makeup can be used to enhance the appearance of the skin and features in various photographic situations. Lighting controls makeup to a high degree. A good makeup application can be ruined or its effectiveness lessened by unattractive lighting. A good model knows how to adjust her makeup movements to make the light flatter himself or herself and the item being shown. The directions the light is coming from, the quality of the light (hard and direct or diffused and non directional), the color of light(warm or cool), and the amount of contrast between the highlights and the shadows are factors that must be taken into consideration when makeup is applied for photography.
