HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR SKIN TYPE

Get EXCITED!  Get SUPER Excited!  Let’s talk about skin type…did you know there are three skin types?

Your skin type depends on how much water is in your skin, which affects its comfort and elasticity.  Also, how oily it is, which affects its softness.  The three skin types are dry, oily and combination.

Normal Skin Type
Not too dry and not too oily, normal skin has:
No or few imperfections
No severe sensitivity
Barely visible pores
A radiant complexion

Combination Skin Type
Your skin can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others, such as the T-zone (nose, forehead, and chin). Many people have this type. It may need slightly different care in different areas.
Pores that look larger than normal, because they’re more open
Blackheads
Shiny skin

Dry Skin
You may have:
Almost invisible pores
Dull, rough complexion
Red patches
Your skin is less elastic
More visible lines
Your skin can crack, peel, or become itchy, irritated, or inflamed. If it’s very dry, it can become rough and scaly, especially on the backs of your hands, arms, and legs.

Oily Skin Type
You may have:
Enlarged pores
Dull or shiny, thick complexion
Blackheads, pimples, or other blemishes
Oiliness can change depending upon the time of year or the weather.

No matter what type of skin you have, these tips will keep it looking its best.
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays.
Avoid direct sunlight and wear a hat and sunglasses.
Don't smoke.
Stay hydrated.
Wash your skin gently but thoroughly every day and never wear makeup to bed.
Moisturize.

Now that you know your skin type, you can choose the best products that will deliver a healthier, more radiant complexion.

CREATE HEALTHY SKIN SMOOTHIES

Get SUPER Excited! Let's talk about healthy skin...Did you know that antioxidants keep wrinkles and sagging to a minimum.
Smoothies are a great way to get all of the nutrients you need for beautiful skin in just one drink.    Let's create some healthy skin smoothies...

The Clear Skin Smoothie

This smoothie, created by Koff, uses a protein powder made from hemp seeds, which is a balanced source of skin-boosting omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The dandelion greens are great for the liver, helping to detox the body and skin; the avocado and raw cacao powder contain a powerful mix of antioxidants, which help clear the complexion and get skin glowing; and the coconut water is loaded with potassium, which helps skin cells get the water they need to stay (and look) hydrated.

Blend …
1 scoop of hemp protein (Koff likes Manitoba Harvest Hemp Pro 70)
1/2 cup organic blueberries
1/2 bunch dandelion greens (no stems)
11 oz coconut water
1/4 avocado
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder

NONI COLADA

Coconut water kefir is another great non-dairy smoothie ingredient, and it's loaded with probiotics -- the "good" bacteria that help keep our digestion running smoothly (and our skin clear as a result). The pineapple in this recipe, created by raw vegan chef Jason Andrew Wrobel, also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent, helping to calm puffy, irritated skin.

Blend …
10 oz coconut water kefir
Handful ice cubes
4 oz frozen pineapple chunks
1 tsp dried noni fruit powder
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
Pinch of sea salt
Sweetener to taste (half dropper-full of vanilla stevia is great)

GREEN TEA COOLER

Created by Mary Kennedy, M.S., a nutrition and wellness professional who works for Stonyfield Farm, this smoothie combines two powerful skin foods: organic yogurt and green tea. The yogurt is loaded with live active cultures that provide the gut with beneficial bacteria, which helps digestion (the better your digestive tract runs, the better your skin will look); mint and honey also help fend off "bad" bacteria, and the green tea is loaded with anti-aging antioxidants.

Blend …
1 cup Stonyfield organic fat-free key lime yogurt

1 cup prepared green tea, cooled

1/2 cup loosely packed mint, chopped

Juice and zest of 2 limes

1 tsp honey

2 cups ice cubes

MANGO YOGURT SMOOTHIE

Koff Boyer created this smoothie and says the frozen mango gives it its sweetness and smooth texture and adds skin-boosting vitamins B6, C, and E. Plus, the omega-3s in the fish oil help to regulate oil production, says Koff, which boosts hydration, helps prevent acne, and staves off wrinkles.

Blend …
1 tbsp fish oil
1⁄2 cup plain, low-fat, organic yogurt
1⁄2 cup frozen mango chunks
1⁄2 cup orange juice
1⁄2 cup ice cubes
1 fresh mint leaf (optional)

Pro Tip:  Antioxidants keep wrinkles and sagging to a minimum.

Face Moisturizer - Keeps Foundation On Longer

Get Excited!  Get SUPER Excited!  Let's talk about moisturizing the face...

Did you know that moisturizing is an important step to makeup application?   It helps your foundation goes on smoothly and evenly.  Before applying foundation make sure to begin with a freshly washed face, then apply your moisturizer to a damp face.  You can use a light moisturizer or a heavy one; just make sure you choose the right one for your particular skin type.

Know your skin type when choosing moisturizers...

Moisturizers for normal skin are usually light to help even out any dry areas.

Moisturizers for dry skin are usually higher in emollients and are richer.

Moisturizers for sensitive skin are fragrance and irritant-free

Moisturizers for oily skin are extremely light and won’t clog pores.  Yes, oi
ly skin needs moisturizer, because it can often be over-dried by cleansers.

Pro Tip:

Moisturizer evens the skin’s porosity and is most effective when it’s left to absorb for a few minutes before you apply your makeup.  Don't forget to moisturize your lips before applying lip color.

Hey Everybody Get Excited!  I’m back.  Did you know pores provide essential natural oil to skin?  Keep pores hydrated, smooth and allow it to breathe.  Let’s talk about how to shrink open pores…

Baking Soda

How to Treat Dry and Flaky Eyelids

Hey Everybody!  Get Excited!  I’m back with another informational beauty blog.  Let’s talk beauty…Did you know that the eyelid is one of the most common areas irritation?  The skin of the eyelid is extremely sensitive and more prone to allergic reaction than the tough skin on your hands. Although dry, itchy eyelids are usually attributed to makeup.  Dry, flaky eyelids can be a sign of infection or inflammation that requires medical attention, but they can also arise as a reaction to certain skin and eye products or result from hormonal changes. There are a few ways to reduce the dryness on your eyelids, but the sensitivity of the area must be kept in mind.

Here are some things you can do to reduce your discomfort.

Petroleum Jelly

Petroleum Jelly is a wonderful alternative why to treat dry eyelid. Dip a Q-tip into some petroleum jelly and spread a thin layer over your eyelid. Do not put chunks or thick layers over your eyelid; this will suffocate the skin and could cause more irritation. It is best to do this at nighttime right before bed, since petroleum jelly can leave eyelids looking shiny. Repeat this for about a week or until the dryness goes away.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Apply extra virgin olive oil to your eyelids. Rinse your face with warm water and leave it damp. Dip a cotton ball into the extra virgin olive oil and gently rub it onto your eyelids. Olive oil is a natural ingredient that penetrates deep and seals in moisture.

Aloe Vera

Immediate relief of discomfort from your dry eyelids can be achieved using Aloe Vera, which contains soothing and healing properties.    Apply Aloe Vera as often as necessary. It will not build up on your skin like most skin products.  Make sure to use an Aloe Vera product that contains no preservatives and that is made up of at least 98 percent.

Daily Care

Taking proper daily care of your skin is the most important aspect to ridding your eyelids of dry skin, as well as further preventing dry eyelids. It's best to never sleep with makeup on your face because it doesn't allow your skin to breath. Cleanse your face every night before bed, followed by moisturizing your eyelids. Also, eyelids are especially sensitive to the sun. You can wear a light combination facial sunscreen and moisturizer to prevent dryness due to sun exposure.

Makeup Tips

Until your eyelids are successfully treated for dryness, there are a couple tips you can use in the meantime to ensure that your makeup goes on smoothly. Wearing liquid eye shadow instead of powder eye shadow will ensure no clumping occurs. If you do use powder eye shadow, use a primer beforehand to create a smooth base over your eyelid.

At Home Summertime Pedicure

Hey Everybody!  Get Excited!  I’m back with another informational beauty blog.   Let’s talk beauty…Did you that you don't have to go to a nail salon and get a pedicure every week to have great looking toenails?

Summertime is all about wearing flip-flops and showing off those beautiful toes, so makes sure that you choose a color that matches your personal style.  At-home pedicure is easier than you think.  Here’s the tool you’ll need.

Nail clippers
Emery board
Warm water
Clean towel
Cuticle pusher
Toilet paper or toe separator
Clear base-coat nail polish
Nail polish
Clear top-coat nail polish
Nail polish remover
Cotton swabs

Let’s get started…
Remove nail polish with cotton ball and gentle polish remover. Avoid rubbing too hard as this could cause nail scratching.

Clip and file your toenails. Use large nail clippers and cut straight across. Avoid cutting rounded corners, as it causes ingrown toenails. Shape your toenails using an emery board or nail file.
Use a buffer on tops of nails briefly to smooth down the nail surfaces. Don't press hard, which could damage the nail.

Soak your feet in warm water.
Push the cuticle back on each of your toenails. This will reveal the fresh new growth of your toenails and prepare the nail for polish.

Wash your feet with gentle soap and warm water after a few minutes of soaking. Dry thoroughly with a clean towel.
Dip a cotton ball in professional cuticle remover or olive oil and gently massage the toe until the cuticles are soft. Push cuticles back gently with cuticle pusher.

Massage a moisturizer into the foot and toes to keep skin soft and smooth.
Insert your toes into the toenail separator. This will keep your toes spread apart and prevent them from touching and smearing the nail polish.

Apply a base coat and let dry. Base coats not only prevent your toenail polish from chipping, but also protect from stains that occur on your nails with darker colors.
Apply nail polish to your toenails, one at time. Start with your big toe and move towards the smallest toe. Apply one coat and put a second coat of nail polish on after the first had dried. You shouldn't need more than two coats of polish.

Apply a protective top coat. Protective top coats increase shine and prolong the wear of your nail polish.
Use a cotton swab dabbed in nail polish remover to remove any mistakes or excess nail polish.

Pro Tip: When toenails spend a lot of time smothered in socks and shoes, the nails can harden and even yellow. Moisturizing your toenails regularly will boost your nail health and protect the nail from excess dryness.

Makeup For Sensitive Skin

Hey Everybody!  Get Excited!  Get Excited!  I’m back with another informational beauty blog.  Did you know that water-proof products can strip skin of its protective oil and cause irritation?  Let’s talk makeup for sensitive skin…
Since fragrances can aggravate sensitive skin, look for products that are labeled "without perfume" or "fragrance-free." Do not buy products labeled as "unscented."   According to the American Academy of Dermatology, "unscented" products often contain fragrance to disguise the smell of the chemicals. Although makeup preservatives (such as formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol and paraben) can cause skin irritation, products containing water must have them to prevent bacteria growth. Compare product ingredient labels and choose products with less than 10 ingredients to avoid aggravating your skin with numerous preservatives.

Hypoallergenic or mineral-based products are better for sensitivity.  Look for mineral makeup that contains no synthetic perfumes, dyes or preservatives.   Beware of mineral makeup that contains nanoparticles and bismuth oxycholoride.  These can irritate and clog pores.

Sensitive Eyes…
The skin around your eye is very sensitive and may react differently from the rest of your facial skin to makeup. Therefore, applying a protective barrier in the form of makeup primer around your eye helps to soothe the skin and also makes your makeup appear smoother. This will keep the makeup from being placed directly on your skin and could stop irritation.
Look for lighter-colored, powdered eye shadow because it contains less irritating color pigments than brighter shadows. Avoid eye makeup containing shimmer or glitter. If you use eyeliner, choose a wax-based pencil liner rather than liquid eyeliner. Liquid liner contains latex, which can cause an allergic reaction on sensitive skin. When possible, choose black eyeliner or mascara which may be gentler on skin than other pigments. Discard eye makeup after three months to prevent bacteria accumulation that can further aggravate skin.

Sensitive Lips…
If your lips are sensitive, use a moisturizing lip balm and lipstick or gloss. Avoid long-lasting lip color. The American Academy of Dermatology states that ingredients in long-wearing lip products are more likely to cause an allergic reaction. Throw away lip products one year after purchasing to prevent contamination.

Pro Tip:  Always remove all makeup before you go to sleep. Makeup can build up over time if it is not washed off properly and eventually cause deposits in and around the eye area. This can cause continual irritation.

What is BB Cream

Hey Everybody!  Get Excited! Get Excited!  I’m back with another informational beauty blog.  Let’s talk beauty…Did you know that BB creams are another way to get skin perfection?
In the cosmetics world, the beauty buzz is about the rise of BB creams for luxury and mass market retailers. The truth is, they’re not new.  The original BB cream stands for blemish balm made in Korea. The original products were just used to treat blemishes but now they’re for beauty or facial rejuvenation. Today the BB creams are much more sophisticated than they were when they started and much more complex in a good way. It has become a favorite beauty product for many women in Asia and the international markets.
Not all BB creams are the same you have to see what’s in that BB cream.  BB cream is said to be a substitute for foundation. The lightweight cream evens out the skin tone and hides blemishes. You can apply the cream the same way you would apply a moisturizer. You may also decide to apply your makeup on top of the BB cream; however, it is not necessary.

How to Give Yourself a Facial

Did you know face lifts in America can cost between $7,000 to $25,000, depending on the surgeon and facility? Save some money by giving yourself a facial. You don't need a trip to the spa to treat yourself to a facial. All you need is a half an hour and some key items to emerge with a clean, fresh, and relaxed face.

  • Steps
Tie back your hair and keep it off your face.

Place a warm, wet towel on your face and keep it there for a few minutes.

Remove the towel and wash your face using cleanser that's suitable to your skin type.

Fill a pot with water. Add herbs suitable to your skin type or a few drops of essential oil. For example, chamomile, fennel seeds and roses are good for dry skin, and rosemary, lavender and peppermint can help oily skin.

Put the pot on the stove and bring the water to a boil. Remove the pot from the heat.

Drape the towel over your head and hold your face over the steam. Steam for 5 or 10 minutes, or whatever is comfortable.

Put on a face mask. If using a clay-based mask, avoid the eye area.

Lie down and relax as the mask dries. Cucumber slices over the eyes are cooling.

Rinse your face, making sure to get all traces of the mask off.
Conclude your facial with toner, then moisturizer.

He's Borrowing Your Moisturizer

Yes ladies, your husband has been in your medicine cabinet. No, he's not snooping--he's borrowing your moisturizer.

Listen up fellas skincare products are not exclusive to women. In fact, there are a huge variety of products designed especially for men. Men you should analyze your skin type. Maybe it's dry and flaky, or perhaps you're prone to breakouts. Knowing your skin's specific needs makes it easier to find the perfect moisturizer.

To pick a moisturizer men you must get one
Neutrogena Men Age Fighter Face Moisturizer, 1.4-Ounce Packages (Pack of 2)specifically for your skin type. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, choose an oil-free variety. A moisturizer is important, not only for hydration, but to combat the effects of aging like fine lines and wrinkles.

Test the moisturizer to make sure it's not too greasy or heavily scented. See how long it takes for the moisturizer to absorb into your skin. Rich, creamy moisturizers take longer to absorb but are generally more effective than thin, fast-absorbing moisturizers.

Eye Care! Eye Creams! Eye Gels!

Hey Reader! Thanks for stopping by today. I was on a conference call last night and the main topic was (Eye Care). It was an excellent topic that I had to post this information on my blog. It is said that women #1 beauty concern is how to care for the eyes. Women should begin to use eye creams at the age of 30 to prevent puffiness, fine lines and dark under-eye circles.

Eyes are one of the most accentuated facial features we have. From makeup to sunglasses, they are often framed and displayed. Taking care of your eye area, where some of the most sensitive skin on your body is found, is important in your skin care regimen.

To apply eye products use your ring finger. The ring finger is the smoothest and least used of your fingers, so it will glide against your skin lightly. Start at the outer corner of eye when apply eye cream (products) pat going towards the nose (counter clockwise). When using eye creams pat the area around the eye repeatedly to help ensure that the eye cream you initially spread is absorbed into the skin. This is a very gentle touch, so do not rub or pull at your skin.

Eye creams are great because they not only moisturize around your eyes but also give your concealer, foundation and eye shadow a smooth surface to cover.

Eye Cream – Helps prevent lines while softening and diminishing existing lines. Great for Normal to Dry skin

Eye Gel - Helps cool puffiness, smooth, and great for dark under-eye circles. Excellent for oily skin
